Client Services
The Client Services Department is staffed by trained qualified personnel whose primary concern is responding to telephone inquiries and contacting customers to provide information. Client Services Representatives answer questions or concerns regarding specimen requirements, turnaround time, patient results, test add requests and miscellaneous other inquiries through effective use of the laboratory information systems. They also appropriately channel calls to specific individuals for technical or interpretive information and dispatch couriers to meet clients' needs. Together with the Central Processing and Accessioning, Distribution and Technical staffs, they assure excellent quality and rapid result delivery. Distribution Services
Cleveland Clinic Reference Laboratory provides local courier services to clients in the metropolitan and surrounding areas. Reference Laboratory Distribution Service Representatives pick up specimens and deliver reports and supplies to clients on a scheduled basis. For further information, call the Client Services Department.


Consultation Services
Staff pathologists and PhDs are available for consultation upon request. Call the Client Services Department to arrange such services.


Operational Hours
Cleveland Clinic Reference Laboratory is in operation twenty-four hours per day, seven days per week. Tests are performed according to a defined production schedule based on need and methodology.


Holiday Hours
Cleveland Clinic Reference Laboratory recognizes the following as official holidays:

New Year's Day January 1st
Memorial Day Last Monday in May
Independence Day July 4th
Labor Day 1st Monday in September
Thanksgiving 4th Thursday in November
December Holiday The day prior to or following Christmas
Christmas December 25th

Production schedules are adjusted to meet the varied workflow of holiday seasons but required STAT testing is provided as needed. Holidays which occur on weekends are observed on Friday or Monday. Notices are sent to clients in advance of each holiday and special pick-up or testing arrangements are made as needed.


Quality Assurance
Extensive proficiency testing and quality control measures assure that each specimen is provided the full benefits of in-house quality, expertise and knowledge. Staff pathologists, PhDs, laboratory scientists and technologists are all highly experienced in handling complex tests. The Quality Coordinating Team and senior management monitor performance indicators for all laboratory services. Performance improvement initiatives are regularly instituted and reviewed as part of an aggressive on-going quality improvement program. Telephone calls in the Client Services department are monitored and recorded for quality assurance.

Supplies
All supplies required to collect and transport laboratory specimens to the Reference Laboratory at the Cleveland Clinic are available by contacting Client Services or by submitting a Supply Order Form (PDF; provided by the Distribution Service representatives). Supplies provided include serum and urine transfer tubes, specimen transport bags and special collection materials described in the Test Directory. Order supplies in advance to facilitate timely delivery. Specimen collection devices supplied by the Cleveland Clinic Reference Laboratory are to be used only for the collection of specimens to be sent to this laboratory. The supplies are not to be used to store or dispose of biological materials or sharp instruments or for any activity not connected with the collection of specimens being referred to this laboratory.
